Kala Sarpa and Kalamrta Yogas

Kala Sarpa and Kalamrita Yoga

It is a common knowledge that Kalasarpa and Kalamrita Yogas are formed when all planets are found in between the nodes. Whenever Rahu is on the lead, kalasarpa yoga is formed while Ketu on the lead forms Kalamrita Yoga. This is standard and general rule. However, there are some additional rules to clearly determine which Yoga is in question. Sometimes, Rahu maybe on the lead and Kalamrita yoga is formed and vice verse. The simple way to check without the elaborate rules which imply additional jyotish rules is to check the following. Check whether a person suffered more with a father or with a mother. IF the suffering is more with the father, it is kalasarpa Yoga, if with a mother, it is Kalamrita yoga. Why is it so? Rahu eclipses Sun, while Ketu eclipses the Moon. In both cases, luminaries are destroyed, and that is the handicap of the Yoga. Then, the strength of the Guru has to come to rescue Surya, and Shukra to rescue Chandra. This is a standard principle in jyotish. When Surya is weak (father), only Guru can come and replace its role. When Chandra is weak (mother), a good spouse will come to rescue. In these yogas, the two (Guru and Shukra), become the most important and dominant grahas.

Kalasarpa yoga gives direction of bhoga while kalamrita yoga gives direction towards moksha marga. There are many various aspects about these two yogas, such as timing, effects etc, however the purpose of this article is to spill out some secret meanings of this yoga which cannot be find on any websites or books, and which I have been taught by the grace of my Guru.

Kalasarpa Yoga depends on the strength of Surya and Guru. It depends on the strength of Shiva or male energy.

Kalamrita Yoga depends on the strength of Chandra and Shukra. It depends on the strength of Shakti or female energy.

The usual teachings of this Yogas where one (Kalasarpa) leads a person towards Bhoga Marga, while another (kalamrita) leads a person towards moksha Marga has various others hidden meanings. For example, In case of Kalasarapa Yoga, If Surya and Guru break the Yoga or become strong in Lagna or 7th house (satya peetha) a person will become very spiritual due to the blessing of Shiva. Therefore, strength of these four grahas will finalize the direction of Yoga. On the other hand if Chandra, Shukra and Rahu are found in trines to Navamsa Lagna or are placed in Arudha Lagna or its trines,  bhoga Marga will become predominant and Shakti will becoma stronger. This will hold true particularly if at the same time Surya Guru and Ketu are placed in 12th house from Lagna  or Arudha Lagna. Therefore it is very wrong just to see these two yogas and pronounce the effect without taking into account some additional and modifying rules.

The next step lies to analyze the rashi where Rahu or Ketu are placed in Kalasarpa and Kalamrita Yogas respectivelly. This rashi is the seat of Maya Peetha, or the seat of our illusion where a person beleives that this rashi is akin to their lagna. This illusion can be overcome only by two Gurus/Brahmins: Guru and Shukra. This rashi is a throne, a head, and such throne is occupied either by Rahu in Kalasarpa and Ketu in Kalamrita Yoga. When the nodes sit on the throne, normally the lights will be destroyed, based on the Vara chakra principle. Therefore, start with the starting node as Lagna, since the person will observe from this point their life (they will consider it as Lagna).

The next principle is to examine two Devatas who play important part in 33 devas. These are Indra and Prajapati. THe prajapati is the most powerful Devata in this Yoga (axisLagna and 7th bhava), while Indra has limited power. These two devatas can break the Yogas.

Apart from these two Devatas, there are two other Devis who hold the keys in these two Yogas. These are Ugratara and Kamalatmika, being mahavidyas of the Guru and Shukra respectively.

The typical syndrom of these two Yogas are suffering or early death of father (Kalasarpa) or mother (Kalamrita) which is the sign of bad luck and Yoga strongly functioning.

The next step is to break the Yoga. Mantras work easily when Yoga is naturally broken. However, in cases where no breakage exists Yoga is difficult to break. In such cases the position of Chandra in the chart holds key. IF Guru or Shukra are in badhak stan to each other, the special puja with rose sphatik should be done (Neela Saraswati), fruits and banannas and 3 rose flowers must be offered. Otherwise Yoga cannot be broken due to badhaka dosha.

Apart from many specific points about the yoga, the main point about the yoga is to actually decide whether it is Kala Sarpa or Kala mrta yoga. Though there are standard rules to determine the Yoga, Parasara teaches very specific rule as how to see what is the ultimate result of the yoga. He also gives remedies as per the leading planet:

1. If Rahu leads the life Path, you may be born as a prince or with all benefits of the material world, yet would later on reform and take a bad path (see position of Budha)

2. If Ketu leads the life Path, you may have a life like a sage Valmiki- start a life as a robber or bad person and later on turn into a sage

Both yogas broken by malefics take life astray, while benefics breaking the yoga gives social service and good path. However it is important that these benefics are strong and not cursed. There should not be any other malefic having purna graha drsti on it.  This is a huge subject and the whole book can be written based on it, and I will try to cut it short and give you some clear and exact methods.

In this chart, Rahu is on the lead, so Rahu with Shukra in Karka is the "new" Lagna, where a person self-identifies with Karka Rasi and Shukra and Rahu in Lagna. From this Lagna, we have Guru, Surya and Chandra in 2nd, Shani, Budha in 3rd, Mangal in 4th, and Ketu in 7th. Ketu is on the lead, and it will eclipse Chandra, so, mother will suffer, and Shukra will come to rescue, so the marriage is the way out. A person was advised Kamalatmika Mahadivya of Venus to take her out of Kalamrita Yoga. Now, we use a few methods of timing with these Yogas. One is to take Vimsottari dasas of Shukra and Guru years, depending on the Yoga. In this chart, since it is Kalamrita Yoga, Shukra is used with 20 years of Vimsottari dasa showing 20 years. Therefore place 20 years on the Shukra and move direct and reverse counting each year for a house. However, I wish to use the other method. A person met a partner when she entered 25th year. By using Shukra count, we shall reach Vrschika rasi which is 12th bhava of marriage. However, by using special method of Nadi chakra dasa, the meeting occurred, in the 3rd dasa of Budha and Shani (Kanya rasi), which holds Upapada and 7th lord. Shukra breaks Kalamrta Yoga, and a person will take a good path of spirituality and jyotish (Breakage is in 8th bhava), and Shukra is in Karka, Brahmana rasi, showing the knowledge. However, due to Shukra in neecha navamsa, Kamalatmika sadhana should be done for life.

Example 2

In this chart, Rahu is on the lead, and Yoga is broken by Shani, which is not good pointing to ultimate suffering and losses. Ketu in Kumbha will start a yoga and overtake the Lagna, and all planets should be considered in this manner. This is clear case of Kalasarpa Yoga where Surya is ruined and Guru has to come to rescue. Guru is 12th lord of marriage and it has come to mould the life of a person. Now, the first two nadi chakra dasas are ruled by Shani and Rahu, keeping the bandana of Kalasarpa Yoga so until the age of 24, a person was not able to come out of the clatches of Kala Sarpa Yoga. Only after that age up to the age of 36, Dhanu dasa came with exalted Guru to help the person. Also keep in mind that Kalasarpa and Kalamrita Yoga can be broken by benefics in Lagna or 7th house (satya pitha). Here we have benefics in lagna but they are afflicted by malefics, so this is not automatic. In tula dasa she got married due to the 7th bhava ruled by benefic in lagna, acting favourably to breakage of the yoga (benefics in lagna or 7th). Therefore, the third dasa brought about good effect due to Guru exaltation as lord of the dasa in Kendra. The next dasa of Vrschika will again put a strain over person's sensitive nature shown by Mangal in Lagna and Rahu and Shani in trine. Breakage of Kalasarpa Yoga in the 7th from KSY Lagna in Kumbha shows that the greatest suffering would come through husband and marriage, and worship of Tara is advised throughout to keep marriage and kids happy and healthy.

argala

Today, you will find many articles about the argala of a planet/sign. However, desipite the best efforts, many of learners cannot use the principles nor can they apply them in the chart. I will not speak about argala in a techical matter, for all about it can be found in books of my Jyotish Guru Pt. Sanjay Rath, as well as classical texts such as Parashara and Jaimini. In the context of understanding argalas, you should analyze each argala in detail (primary argalas are 2.4.11 positions). You should also keep in mind that Virodha Argala completelly may change or block the argala.

Dhana Argala Result on Lagna

I will take one graha position and give you the effect of Dhana Argala. You can check it practical horoscopes and see the results. You will be suprised by the effect found. We will take Rahu position in the 2nd house which has dhana Argala on Lagna. Keep in mind that Rahu can be found in 12 different signs, where resources and effects will be slightly modified, and Rahu can also be found in different positions from different Lagnas, can rule different bhavas and be influneced by different graha. Nevertheless, the effect of dhana Argala of Rahu in 2nd house are as follow:

1. Loss of money which will come through significations of the house ruled by Rahu

2. bad health, loss of longevity in time (deadly disease)

3. shocks and troubles in family which will negativelly affect the life and health of a person

4. Influx of wealth if Guru is placed in Lagna, 3rd, 6th and 10th house. If rahu is placed in Kanja wealth is there, while in Karka, a person will get wealth from foreign sources. In other signs judge accordingly. In any case, there will always be plans and confusion about the money which may cause a lack of mental peace

5. A person is extremelly egoistic, angry and selfish (yet a person hides these within themselves)

6. A speech is diplomatic, a person lies and has no boundaries in speech. May speak a shocking things or revealing personal things which are shocking to others

7. A person is not Sundari (internally and externally beautiful), and nas no style, manners. Eyes are usually small or not appealing (Mark of Rahu).

8. No matter how intelligent a person is, there will be stupid decisions, lack of wisdom during the lifetime, particularly those related to family or money.

9. A person easily losses mental and physical energy, disperce in plans and lacks initiative

10. Life can stop or get entangled in family matters, money or other area depending on the position of other planets and points in 2nd bhava.

In this way, you should understand all planets having dhana argala on lagna from 2nd house. This should be wiselly applied on dhana argals on various houses.

Rasa or Taste

There is an ongoing discussion on certain foods and rasas/essence/, tastes which are favoured or good by the owner of the vedic chart. I tend to avoid public discussion due two reasons: One is fundamental and non tolerant attitude prevailing in many astrologers, while another is simple choice of not revealing the teachings to the public but certain students one wants to choose. However, there are again some points which can be taught to anyone willing to learn astrology. I am bringing these points here.

Taste is seen from Lagna, 5th and 9th house. Lagna gives natural taste for food, while 5th house gives preffered taste for food. Nineth house gives the food we are trained or accostumed to eat. Most astrologers make mistake by judging the preffered food from Lagna only. For example, if your father (9th house is Muslim), you will be trained or accostumed to avoid Pork meat. Therefore, one has to see the influences in trines to see the prefference of food. Second house shows the food we actually eat. We may like to eat certain food, however due to various reason (health, finance, job obligations etc), we may actually consume completelly another type of food. For example if Atmakaraka rules the 2nd house and is afflicted, one will certainly have to change the food style because of health problems, or even poverty, depending on the placement of Atmakarak planet in the chart. If it is Mangal and is in Maranakaraka stana, eating hot food will cause serious disorders in heart, head or colon. Normally Rahu eats fish and fish products, Ketu eats read meat and pork in particular, Mangal likes birds, such as chicken, Budha likes greens, Shani eats all kinds of meat and stale food, Surja likes honey, bread, and wheat, Chandra likes baby food, and milk, while Shukra likes sour food such as yoghurt etc. These are the basics. There is a whole list of other food ruled by the planets.

Many people tend to confuse Rasas and Tastes, which is wrong and is a long subject for discussion. Also, it is a well known fact among the students of my Guru to look for Somanath Drekana for health. You will find in many articles and books methods to calculate Somanath drekana. Now, there is a very important point as how to use this chart for choosing the best food for ojas and health. Many astrologers and followers of our tradition take simply the lord of Somannath drekana and choose the taste, which is WRONG! Do not go by it, otherwise you will fall sick. For example, my somanath drekana is ruled by Venus, so according to this I should eat sour food. Due to the sour food, I developed chronic gastritis, which was cured only after I removed the sour completelly from my diet. The basic point is to focus on Pancha Amrita. These are:milk, curd, honey, sugar, clarified butter or ghee. Only choose these food for a start if any of the following graha rules Somanath drekana or is favourably placed in Lagna or its trines. For example, for Guru choose Ghee (though in some exceptions butter is also allowed and good). For Shukra choose Curd or plain Yogurt, though for Vrishaba  Somanath drekana Lagna, lassi or butter milk is preferred and better, while for Thula it is Yoghurt.  For Karka lagna in this drekkana choose water and milk, while for Simha choose Honey. Quality type sugar like raw cane sugar or date sugar is ruled by Guru. All other processed sugars are ruled by Venus (it is exalted in Pisces), and Venus does not rule sugar but LIKES sugar. That is a big difference. In case of other malefic Lagnas, see the best influence on Lagna in Somanath drekana by Surya, Guru, Shukra and Chandra, and choose accordingly.

Arka or trines to a house

It is well known fact that the trine houses (9th and 5th) are the most important houses for luck and dharma. Parashara terms these houses as Lakshmi sthanas or places of Shri or Goddes Laksmi. Actually, the Shri is much broader term including luck, happiness, love, marriage, wealth etc. Therefore, we often call them “resource” houses. However, this article will not deal into detailed examination of these houses, but point out their role in reference to any other house. Each 9th house is “dharma” house counted from any house. Such house will indicate the rules, regulations, principle which will bring the house concerned to a succesful completion. For example, 7th house is not the sex act, but the partner with whom we have sexual copulation in order to produce children. The sexual copulation house is 3rd house, equivalent to the 3rd sign known as Maithuna/pair, union/. Therefore, 9th house counted from 7th house is the 3rd house of sexual copulation which is the dharma of partnership or marriage. Therefore, the sexual copulation which will lead to children is the dharma, rules, regulations and principle which governs the 7th house.

Therefore, if we want to see WHAT IS NECESSARY TO DO to achive the goal of any house, we have to see the 9th house counted thereof. For example 10th house is the house of success, karma or work. If we want to achive success we have to work hard (6th house). Therefore, carefully look the following:

1. Planets placed in 9th house from the house. If there are no planets see the sign

2. Such planets should be benefic. These planets will show how the success of the house will be achieved. If there are malefic in such places they can show struggles or problems in achiving the goals of the house under consideration. For succesful completion, they should be exalted or well placed (if malefics) or friends to a bhava karaka of a house we examine. For example, if Surya is placed in 6th house, it is friendly to the 10th house, and surya will help achieve the goals of the 10th house, for which the Budha is karaka.

On the other hand, 5th house counted from any house will show the results of the house in future. Therefore, it is necessary to examine the planets placed in the 5th house from any house to see the house’s future. Apply the same rules as given for the 9th house. Malefic planets placed in the 5th house counted from any house will threaten the future and prospects of the house. In such cases, it is necessary to perform remedial measures for these planets. More about individual planetary placements and remedial measures for malefic planets such as Rahu (the worst placement), Atmakaraka planet (significator of a soul) etc, will be explained in a detailed lecture accompanied by Mp3.

Abijit Rashi

Abijit rashi is one of the most important signs in the horoscope. We term abijit as the sign which is placed in the 4th house counted from Surya. Why 4th house? If we look backwards, the Surya will be found in the 10th house of digbala from this sign. Naturally, such sign’s intelligence will move towards the Sun, and perform the karma like by it. It is a known fact that such sign will become extremelly important in the horoscope. However, it is very important to examine the house, house lord and its placement relative to such sign.

If you look at Shri Ram chart, (I beleive all beginners of Jyotisha should know Shri Ram and Shri Krishna’s chart-if necessary I will upload them). Abijit Rashi is found in Lagna with Guru exalted as a 9th lord with Chandra Lagna lord. Shri Krishna horosope also holds Shani, 9th lord in abijit sign. What was there role? The Paramatama(Surya), wanted them to come to establish dharma. Both charts have 9th lord of dharma in abijit sign. Thus, everybody having 9th lord in abijit sign is required to perform and exibit dharma in their life. Of course, it will not make us equal with Shri Krishna and Shri Ram, since in their charts, apart from other very specific combinations, such lords are in Digbala!!! Therefore, planets and signs in Abijit Rashi have a special importance in a horoscope. Abijit Rashi is always related to one among the four Vedas, and there can be two types of karma (good or bad) as indicated by this sign.

In a future MP/3-s and discussion, I am going to explain the link of Abijit Rashis among the great souls, and those who share the similar karma. I will also touch important events and areas which are strongly influenced by this sign, as well as link of a Vedas with this sign and mantras as how to activate or balance this sign.
